It is extremely important for us to work more actively with our strategic partners and international financial institutions and to enable business to be more effective. This was stated by President Rumen Radev at the business forum in Warsaw, which accompanies the 10th Summit of the “Three Seas“ initiative.
The head of state arrived in Poland yesterday for a two-day visit. Later today, the president will participate in the 10th Summit of the “Three Seas“ initiative.
According to Radev, it is crucial to turn political will and talk into real practical results.
Only an economically strong and socially stable European Union can overcome challenges and guarantee its security. This was stated by President Rumen Radev to journalists in Warsaw, where he participated in a summit of the “Three Seas“ initiative.
“The military conflicts around our region have brought the achievement and guarantee of security as a priority. We must not forget that the focus on connectivity and competitiveness are no less important for the European Union than the rearmament of the continent“, the president pointed out.
Rumen Radev emphasized that during the Bulgarian presidency of the initiative in Sofia, our country proposed the creation of an innovation fund to accelerate cooperation in science, scientific research, and innovation. “Now we see how far-sighted this proposal of ours was, against the backdrop of the race in artificial intelligence and not only. Achieving a better and more even distribution of scientific and research centers between Western and Eastern Europe is a guarantee for greater investment interest and acceleration of economic and social cohesion,“ said the President.
In his words, over the years, the “Three Seas“ initiative has developed significantly. The investment fund of the initiative, although insufficient, has proven to be a working financial mechanism, noted Rumen Radev. The true value and vision of the “Three Seas“ initiative go far beyond infrastructure, money and the economy. It is about the level of ambition for the future of our region and Europe, for the development of trust and cooperation, said the President.
At the fourth high-level meeting of the initiative on June 5 and 6, 2019. in Ljubljana, Slovenia, a decision was made to establish an international investment fund to support the implementation of priority projects in the region of the initiative countries, BTA recalls.
Who would have thought ten years ago, when the initiative was created, that Europe would be faced with such challenges as Covid-19, the energy crisis, the war in Ukraine - all of which reveal the exceptional need for much better connectivity, transport, energy, digital and strong regional cooperation, which are the main pillars of the initiative, commented the head of state.
During the 2021 Sofia summit, as hosts, we proposed the creation of an innovation fund for the initiative, because we need to overcome fragmentation and strengthen connectivity in the fields of science, research, education and innovation. I am very pleased that this fund has finally been created, because today we see the race in the field of artificial intelligence, which is of vital importance for our economic growth and future, Rumen Radev also said.
