The police are increasing their presence on the road and expecting heavy traffic for the holidays.
In addition to highways and main roads, additional teams will also be on duty at train stations and bus stations.
Additional patrols will also be on the „Hemus“ highway, where heavy traffic and traffic jams are expected due to repairs.
Today, traffic in the area of the „Topli dol“ and „Praveshki khanove“ tunnels will be two-way towards Varna, and traffic towards Sofia will be diverted via a detour route.
On May 6, traffic will be two-way, but in the direction of Sofia.
For greater road safety, tests of the overloaded truck detection system are already underway. How does it work?
There are over 100 points on the asphalt for weighing the weight of vehicles throughout the country. And there are hundreds of violators per day. This is shown by the data from the tests of the Toll Administration.
“On this scale you see cases from yesterday. With a maximum permitted weight of 40 tons - you see the first two vehicles are over 10 tons heavier“, says Prof. Oleg Asenov, Director of the “National Toll Management“.
The system measures the load in real time.
“The date, time and place where the violation was detected are displayed. In real time you can see how the vehicles pass through the checkpoint and how the records are reflected in the system“, also pointed out Prof. Asenov.
The system can also measure the instantaneous speed of the passing vehicles.
Over 97,000 trucks passed through the so-called “weighbridges“ in the asphalt in a week. 10,000 of them were overloaded. The system is expected to be operational by the fall.
