The latest figures show that 15,000 people leave Swiss cities every year. High rental costs and housing shortages in major cities are forcing people to look for more affordable options. Housing rents outside major cities are 16% lower. In some cases, renting an apartment within a 30-minute drive from the center of Zurich can cost half as much. The increase in the proportion of people who work remotely and the availability of flexible work schedules make it easier for people to move out of metropolitan areas. And last but not least, construction in rural areas is usually cheaper and faces fewer obstacles than in cities.
More and more people are expected to move to the suburbs and rural areas of Switzerland in the future. This trend can benefit construction companies specializing in rural construction. Migration from cities can lead to lower housing prices in metropolitan areas.
