The Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Czech Republic changed the innovations, local authorities will be able to collect data on how many properties for short-term rent are offered in their municipalities and how many tourists visit each of them.

Property owners will not be able to post ads on platforms such as Airbnb and Booking if they have not registered in the e-Turista electronic system. Those registered there receive a license number for each property that will be displayed on all listing sites.

In the Czech Republic, the share of owners who rent apartments to tourists is 80% of the total number of landlords. There are at least 8,000 properties for rent in Prague.

It is precisely this that prompted the government to take the restrictive measure. The authorities also believe that there is a lack of transparency in short-term housing rentals and that this makes it difficult to exercise control over the process.

The electronic system will allow the Ministry of Regional Development to improve oversight of the short-term rental market and establish tax charges for owners.
