An attempt to smuggle gold jewelry was intercepted at the border checkpoint (BCP) "Lesovo", reports the "Customs" Agency.
While inspecting a cargo train carrying passenger cars from Turkey to Romania, customs inspectors found six packages wrapped in silver foil and hidden in a bag of clothes placed on the bed in the driver's cabin.
The packages were found to contain gold jewelry – rings, chains, lockets, necklaces and earrings, as well as gold bracelets with other decorative elements, the customs agency said.
According to the expertise carried out by an expert, the weight of the 14 carat gold articles is about 1300 grams in total. The market value is BGN 175,591, the institution added.
