Botulinum toxin without documents certifying its origin was found during inspections at sites in Kardzhali, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Sliven and Yambol, and in Blagoevgrad and in Plovdiv, the presence of unlabeled vials was established. This was reported on its website by the Ministry of Health. In the period 4-7 February, the regional health inspectorates inspected 1,145 sites. The action is by order of the Minister of Health, Assoc. Prof. Silvi Kirilov and is related to the unregulated offering and application of various aesthetic procedures.
The Executive Agency for Medical Supervision and the Executive Agency for Medicines have been informed about the violations found and the Bulgarian Medicines Agency.
In early February, by order of Minister Kirilov, regional health inspectorates began extraordinary inspections throughout the country for the performance of unregulated medical activities and services in the field of aesthetic medicine. The reason for the inspections was the admission of several women to the Pirogov Hospital after complications from botulinum toxin injections for cosmetic purposes. During the first two days of the extraordinary inspections, 400 facilities in the country were inspected, the Ministry of Health announced last week.
