During the holidays, the Ministry of Interior controls road traffic with over 300 cameras and unmarked official vehicles, announced Police Inspector Ivo Bikov from the Traffic Police at the Ministry of Interior.

"Unbranded cars, civilian cars with civilian officers who will monitor for violators of the traffic law. They will photograph them and pass them on to our colleagues. If our colleagues can stop them, they will sanction them on the spot. If they cannot, we will sanction them at a later stage," he explained, quoted by the Bulgarian National Radio.

This morning, traffic at the exits of Sofia is calmer, unlike yesterday, when it was the last working day. The Ministry of Interior is prioritizing checking drivers for alcohol and drug use. Yesterday, in the capital alone, 10 drivers were arrested for using alcohol and drugs, Bikov added.

"He tested positive for alcohol over 2 per mille, which is an extremely large amount of alcohol. He also tested positive for amphetamines. He said he was driving on the "Hemus" highway in the direction of Burgas, where he will spend the Easter holidays. The driver in question has been arrested, even his car has been seized. There was another traffic accident at night with a motorcyclist who crashed himself. He also tested positive for over 2 per mille. We appeal to them to comply with the traffic law, and we also appeal to drivers of motor vehicles to be careful," added Inspector Ivo Bikov.
