The Prosecutor's Office in Targovishte detained a man who caused moderate bodily harm to his fellow citizen after stabbing him in the stomach. S.A. (35 years old) from Targovishte was detained for a period of up to 72 hours by a decree of a supervising prosecutor from the District Prosecutor's Office in the city after an incident that occurred on the night of April 18-19, 2025, the Appellate Prosecutor's Office in Varna reported, quoted by BTA.
The man has been charged with causing moderate bodily harm to a fellow citizen and his initial detention has been extended with a view to bringing him before the court for determining a measure of restraint. The District Prosecutor's Office - Targovishte will insist on imposing the most severe measure of "detention in custody" against him.
The incident occurred between 02:00 and 04:00 on April 19. S.A. together with his friends were in an entertainment venue, where they consumed alcohol. The closing of the establishment's working hours and the owners' invitation to leave irritated the company and the men resisted. The resulting tension escalated and a 30-year-old man, close to the owners, intervened in the conflict. While trying to deal with the company's aggressive behavior, he was injured. S.A. pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the abdomen. As a result of the attack, the young man suffered injuries to his liver, ribs and blood vessels. He was admitted for treatment in the intensive care unit of the hospital in Targovishte, and his life is currently in danger.
Within an extremely short period of time – 24 hours from the occurrence of the case, under the leadership of the District Prosecutor's Office – Targovishte and in close cooperation with the District Administration – Targovishte at the Regional Office of the Ministry of Interior, the involvement of the 35-year-old man in the committed act was established, he was detained by the Ministry of Interior officers, immediately brought to criminal liability for a crime under Art. 129, para. 1 of the Criminal Code and his detention was extended for a period of up to 72 hours by the supervising prosecutor. A request for the determination of a preventive measure of "detention in custody" against him is pending in the District Court - Targovishte.
In the course of the investigation, numerous procedural actions were carried out, as a result of which the collection of a significant amount of evidence was ensured, which allowed the case to be sent under jurisdiction to the District Prosecutor's Office - Targovishte with a proposal for a possible reclassification of the act as a more serious crime, given the revealed circumstances and analysis of the evidentiary material. The case is still under investigation, the institution said.
Friends and acquaintances of the victim are organizing on social media and initiating a protest on the first working day after the Easter holidays. They will gather on Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m., in front of the Courthouse in the regional city, to support their friend and family. They thank the police for their quick response and demand adequate punishment.
