Over 40,000 pedestrians were fined last year. More than 400,000 were checked. This was stated by the deputy head of the “Traffic Police“ department, Commissioner Maria Boteva.
“Road accidents with pedestrians are not uncommon, but if we compare the beginning of this year with the same period in 2024, there is a decrease in the injuries of the dead and injured. The data shows that hitting a pedestrian is one of the types of accidents that we must fight against“, she explained, quoted by Nova TV.
According to her, the pedestrian deaths since the beginning of 2025 by February 13, there were five, compared to 21 people in the same period last year. The victims were 194 pedestrians this year.
“The traffic police“ have sent more than 13,000 signals to road owners in the country for irregularities, including those regarding pedestrian crossings“, Boteva noted.
“The main reason for the presence of so many accidents on the roads is that people are distracted. They also think that they are the only ones who have the right of way. And she specified that often the fault in an accident between a pedestrian and a driver is common“, she emphasized.
