The Court of Appeal in Sofia postponed the hearing of the case against Kristina Duncheva, who is accused of the murders of her two minor children, until April 7. It was on the appeal of the defendant's defense. In June 2024, the Blagoevgrad District Court ruled for life imprisonment without the right to commutation.
An expert examination has been commissioned to answer the question of whether the defendant is able to participate in the trial against her. Witness interrogations are also pending, as well as the collection of additional evidence in the case.
Due to the presence of numerous facts concerning the personal life of the defendant, her husband and relatives of the victims, the court is hearing the case in a closed session.
The brutal murder was committed in November 2020. The accused lived as a family with Georgi Traykov in an apartment in Sandanski. Their relationship in 2015 gave birth to their son - Vasil, and two years later - their daughter Yvon. On November 19, 2020, while she was at home with the children, Duncheva took out three household knives. She took one of them and headed towards the children. First, she stabbed her 5-year-old son in the neck, and then her 3-year-old daughter. Despite the screams of the children, who were crying in pain and terror, she took them to the nursery and continued to stab them multiple times with the knife, the investigation found.
Forensic medical examinations proved that each of the children had over 30 stab wounds, mainly on the neck and chest.
