On February 4, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church honors the memory of St. Venerable Isidore of Pelusium.

St. Isidore of Pelusium lived in the 5th century AD. He was a native of Egypt. When he grew up, he became a monk and settled in a place near the city of Pelusium, where his family name comes from.

His Christian prayers and sermons attracted many to the Christian faith and not long after he was elected abbot of the monastery. With his pious life, he attracted many companions and taught them humility and struggle against passions and worldly thoughts. He suffered greatly from the pagans because of his strict and denunciatory speeches. Evagrius, whose memory we also honor on February 4, was a church historian who lived at the same time. In his works, he wrote great things about Isidore of Pelusiot, which remain forever in history and from which we judge the life of the saint. Isidore was extremely revered by his contemporaries because he voluntarily chose monasticism, at the expense of carnal pleasures and worldly life. His love for Jesus Christ made him devote his entire life to faith and its teaching. Almost immediately after the death of Isidore of Pelusiot, he was declared a saint by the Orthodox Church.

On February 4, everyone with the names Zheko, Zhela, Zhelka, Zhecho Zhechko, Zhechka and Zhelyazhko celebrate their name day.
