FAKTI.BG publishes opinions with a wide range of perspectives to encourage constructive debates.

According to the secret documents that blew up the Romanian presidential elections, the Russian conspiracy was planned as early as 2016.

The Constitutional Court received them only days ago and relatively quickly – today and completely unanimously decided to cancel the entire election altogether and entirely due to serious electoral violations. The problem is that the special services and President Klaus Iohannis made a mistake – they had to announce the data they collected even before the first round took place on November 24, won by meteoric extremist Calin Georgescu.

According to the materials, there was massive foreign interference in the elections. The motives have not yet been announced, but will be published in the next issue of the Romanian “State Gazette”.

But some data has already leaked in.

For example, presidential candidate Calin Giordescu has declared zero expenses for his election campaign. However, files handed over to the court show that tens of thousands of (paid) social media accounts have been discovered in support of him by “one country”. Of them only in “Tik-Tok” 25,000 accounts have been identified so far. In “Telegram” are more. Mass buying of votes and a number of protocols with incorrect data from the first round of the elections were found.

Even before today's decision, the Constitutional Court of Romania did not allow participation in them and on October 5 canceled the registration of Diana Jovanovici-Shoshoaca's candidacy because of her campaign with neo-Nazi and racist messages, calls to violence, etc. election violations. (according to my information, she is from Macedonia and of Bulgarian origin)

As in our country, the Romanian Constitutional Court was approached with a request for cashing by several participants and parties in the electoral process. And accordingly, he made his decision today:

„At the meeting on December 6, 2024 The Constitutional Court, in order to ensure the correctness and legality of the electoral process, exercised its powers provided for in Art. 146 letter f) of the Constitution and unanimously decided the following:

1. Pursuant to Art. 146, letter f) annuls the entire electoral process for the election of the President of Romania, carried out on the basis of Government Decision No. 756/2024 regarding the determination of the date of the elections for the President of Romania in 2024. and Government Decision No. 1061/2024 regarding approval of the calendar program for carrying out the necessary actions for the election of the President of Romania in 2024.

2. The electoral process for the election of the President of Romania will be fully resumed, with the government setting a new date for the election of the President of Romania, as well as a new calendar program for carrying out the necessary actions.

3. This decision is final and binding, published in the Official Journal of Romania, Part I, and in the public domain.

Current President Klaus Iohannis is not eligible for a third term. His current one expires on December 21. The Romanian Constitution has written in Art. 83, para. 2 the following: “the President of Romania exercises his mandate until the newly elected President is sworn in“

The law provides that if the election is counted, it will be resumed on the second Sunday after the date of the count - which would mean December 22.

In his campaign, Calin Giordescu emphasized Romania's exit from the EU and NATO, extolled Romania's chauvinism and greatness during its alliance with Hitler in World War II and the “leader of the nation” (that's how he called himself) at that time, Marshal Antonescu, speculating on the youth's ignorance of history and at the same time speculating on the nostalgia for communism of a part of the Romanians. In 2021 he was charged with xenophobia, neo-Nazi activities, glorification of genocide.

The ultra-nationalist forces in Romania and their parties called for calm and said that despite the decision of the Constitutional Court, they will not take their supporters to the streets (I suspect that, unlike the election results, their fans will not be so numerous).

At 7 p.m., the president's statement is expected, and at 9 p.m. – of Calin Giordescu, who was one of the two main candidates in the cashed vote.

Who is Giordescu?

Calin Giordescu trained in judo as a youth, was a Balkan junior champion and a black belt. He graduated from the University of Agronomy and has a doctorate in soil science. He was a scholarship holder of the British and American governments specializing in agriculture, worked in the Romanian state administration in high positions during several governments, and is a prominent NGO activist. Nominated for prime minister by an ultra-nationalist party in 2010 and 2021, he was rapporteur on human rights and hazardous waste at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
