Max Verstappen (Red Bull) won his fourth consecutive Formula 1 world title after finishing fifth in the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The race was won in a dominant way by George Russell (Mercedes), who started from pole position, reports sportal.bg.
The Brit kept his first place at the start, then was pressured by Charles Leclerc in the battle for the lead and even came close to losing it at the start of the fifth lap. However, the Mercedes driver then increased his pace and practically lost first place for just one lap during the first pit stops.
Lewis Hamilton finished second, taking advantage of Mercedes' excellent speed this weekend to progress from tenth on the grid to set up a double victory for the Silver Arrows. The seven-time champion put in a very strong final stint in which he tried to catch up to his team-mate, but even for him the gap he built up at the start proved to be too much. In the final, the two Mercedes drivers were separated by 7.3 seconds.
Ferrari teammates Carlos Sainz and Leclerc finished third and fourth, who managed to catch up and overtake Verstappen in the closing laps. However, this was absolutely no problem for the Dutchman, as with his fifth place he guaranteed his fourth consecutive world title today.
His only rival before the start in Vegas, Lando Norris, finished sixth and took the bonus point for fastest lap. Oscar Piastri, Nico Hulkenberg, Yuki Tsunoda and Sergio Perez shaped the points zone at the 22nd round of the Formula 1 season.
