The differences of opinion about the selection may be the leading reason for Stanislav Genchev's separation from the Bulgarian football club Levski, said the former coach of the “Blues“ at a press conference today, BTA reported.
He explained that he wanted the team to part with three specific players, but the directors chose one of them in front of the entire coaching staff.
"I said about one that he should be sold, another has an expiring contract, and the third is Everton Bala. The amount that should be paid for him can be used in another way. My proposal was to look for a younger player who can be resold. I want to have people like him, but from the point of view of what the club can gain, it is better to attract a young player“, said the former Levski coach.
The Brazilian is playing as a loanee at Levski until the end of the year and a transfer fee must be paid for him, which according to unofficial information is around 200 thousand euros. Genchev insisted that this was unnecessary and instead of him, the "five times cheaper" Serkan Yussein, Dominik Yankov and a promising young player could be secured.
„My proposal was to use part of the money for Bala for Serkan, who is five times cheaper, and the rest for a young player. I also heard from Dominik, and he expressed interest in talking to Levski. Nasko Sirakov (majority shareholder – b.a.) and Daniel Borimirov (executive director) were okay and asked about the price. We were told to send an official request to his club and I've been waiting for this to happen ever since," said the former Levski coach.
Genchev later revealed the name of the second player who wanted to leave, and that was French midfielder Asimi Fadiga.
"I have no complaints about Fadiga's work during training and in matches. But I think he couldn't help much more and that's why my opinion was that he should look for a team in the winter and if he finds one, we should release him. The management didn't agree," Genchev explained.
He didn't deny when asked by a journalist that the third player was Javad El Jemili: “I've told you the reasons why I don't want this player in the locker room. He's unique in terms of qualities, but the reasons are different from football ones. The management decided that I wanted to get rid of our two most creative players, without having their replacements secured. For me, the biggest insult is that the management stands behind the player, not the coach“.
The specialist said that there is a high probability that the reason for the separation is that the management does not like the team's game and does not approve of the results achieved.
"I am tolerant, but I am not ready for any compromises. Every coach comes with his ideas, but I believe that he should be given two transfer windows and two preparations, and then analyzes should be made. The management has not presented me with a long-term vision for the development of the team. I have stated my view. But when there is no consensus, it is better to part ways for the good of the team," he added.
"We had two conversations before signing the contract and from my side it was clearly stated how the team will develop and what the vision will be. We analyzed our players very well and that is why we have built a style... The team has 40 points and is moving forward for the Cup", said Genchev.
"Every coach and manager is aware that the team will have ups and downs. There is no way that the team will have difficulties during such a long period. This was foreseen by us and we expected that there would be a weak game. The important thing was to win these matches too, because this is how the foundation is built for the next season. 40 points is not a small amount, and we were the only team with away games for the European participants. We also hosted CSKA and Arda, and those were our best results. It is normal for there to be elbowing, relaxation and underestimation after that, as the players are exhausted. These are completely normal things", the specialist also said.
Stanislav Genchev also said that he began to feel distrust towards him and the coaching staff after the match with Beroe in October, lost 0:2 to "Gerena", and after the one with Dunav (1:0) for the Cup last weekend, he realized that he was about to be released. One of his assistants received a call from a current player of the team and asked why everyone was saying that he was leaving.
"I felt the lack of trust after the match with Beroe, as after that match the management was not present at the training sessions. It was written that Sirakov told me that out of respect for the profession I should resign after the match with Septemvri. Nothing like that happened. "After the match with Dunav, a player called us and asked us why we were leaving... all the players in the locker room were talking about it," said Genchev.
"But the match with Beroe is hardly the main reason. Just before that, we gave the people a gift with a victory over CSKA. In no case should the coaches lose trust after one match. Even after three or four", he added.
„After the conversation with the management, I was left with the impression that we are between eighth and tenth place. We were set a goal to fight for the European tournaments and for the Cup. To date, the team is in the fight for both goals - 40 points, equal with Cherno More and Botev Plovdiv in second place. The team will certainly look better in the spring, since the selection was made on the fly. I am surprised by the decision considering our last conversations. The penultimate was last Monday. We made mistakes and I did not expect to be perfect. Within six months, we want to have aggressive, attractive, effective and winning football. I don't think anyone has outplayed us, even in the losses. My opinion is that with three more points we would have been at the absolute maximum in terms of assets," Genchev also commented.
He admitted that he is somewhat disappointed with the development of things.
"We can't help but be disappointed, because the team is currently going according to plan. Yes, we have differences, but these things can be ironed out with a 20-minute conversation, if there is a desire. I personally think that the management probably doesn't like the game. They may have expected a more attractive game and more points. The difference in views with the selection is not that big...Analysis shows that in many components of the game we are in first place. I think that if we had used a different system, we would have had 6 points less and 10 goals scored less", said the specialist.
"Nobody has imposed a starting lineup on me. We have discussed the system twice – first after September. They asked me if it would not be better to change the system, and I said that now is not the time", he added.
Genchev also revealed that there was an offer for striker Mustafa Sangare for "over a million and something", but he refused to sell him.
"There were also inquiries for Maicon, I also refused. Kristian Dimitrov also raised his price and there were inquiries. There is no player who has arrived at Levski and has not raised his price. "Every one of them is double or triple up," Stanislav Genchev also said.
