Aryna Sabalenka - world number 1, had no problems against American McCartney Kessler and after 7:6 (4), 6:3 continues in the third round of the strong tournament in Indian Wells, BTA reports. The Belarusian player was eliminated early in the tournaments in Doha and Qatar, but now she did not give the talented American a single chance to break through.
"I already said after the lost final in Australia that I am heartbroken. It was difficult to recover after that match. I always think about the match, maybe it was a mistake, but I constantly wonder how I will qualify. Now I feel much better and that final is in the past. "It was a good experience, a great lesson and I hope it doesn't happen again," Sabalenka said after her success.
The three-time Grand Slam champion will next face Lucia Bronzetti, who beat Poland's Magdalena French 6-3, 7-5.
American Emma Navarro beat Romanian Sorana Curtea 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (3) in an epic two-and-a-half-hour, twist-and-turn match. Navarro will face Croatia's Donna Vekic in the third round, with the latter defeating Elina Avanesyan of Armenia 6-3, 6-3.
Another American, Sofia Kenin, was eliminated from the tournament after being defeated by neutral Russian Daria Kasatkina 6-3, 5-7, 4-6.
Next up is Tokyo Olympic champion Belinda Bencic of Switzerland, who defeated Amanda Anisimova of the United States 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-1, but Tokyo Olympics finalist Leila Fernandez (Canada) lost to another Romanian, Jacqueline Christian, 7-5, 6-7 (5), 3-6.
Two more Russians advanced to the next round of the tournament - Lyudmila Samsonova defeated Katie McNeilly of the United States 7-6 (8), 6-4, and Diana Schneider had no problem with Alicia Parks and defeated her 6-1, 6-1 in less than an hour of play.
