The Bulgarian men's relay team of Blagoy Todev, Anton Sinapov, Vladimir Iliev and Vasil Zashev ranked in 11th place in the round of the Biathlon World Cup in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, reports BTA.
The Bulgarians were in fourth place after the first post, in which Blagoy Todev used only two additional cartridges for his ten targets, with only the teams of Norway, France and the hosts from the Czech Republic ahead of him. However, in the second post, Anton Sinapov made a penalty lap, which took the Bulgarian team to 16th position. With a good performance, the most experienced in the Bulgarian team - Vladimir Iliev, brought the national team back to tenth place, and in the end Vasil Zashev allowed himself to be overtaken only by the representative of the hosts from the Czech Republic, Mihail Krčmar.
In this way, Bulgaria equaled its best performance of the season, as in Hochfilzen the national team also came in 11th place. In total, the Bulgarian biathletes used 14 additional cartridges in the competition and made one penalty lap to finish 5:48.7 minutes behind the winners from France.
The French won the competition without a hitch. Emilien Claude, Oscar Lombardo, Fabien Claude and Quentin Fillon-Maye covered the four 7.5-kilometer stages in 1 hour, 16 minutes and 24.3 seconds, using only four extra cartridges and not making a single penalty lap.
In second place, 1:26.6 minutes behind, was the Norwegian relay team of Martin Uldal, Tarej Bø, Sturla Holm Lagrade and Johannes Tingnes Bø. The world champions were running shoulder to shoulder with France until the last shot, but Bø made a penalty lap and fell far behind Fillon-Maye. This was the only penalty lap for the Norwegians, as they used eight extra cartridges.
The bronze went to the Ukrainian relay team of Artem Tishchenko, Vitaly Mandzin, Anton Dudchenko and Dmytro Pidruchny. The Ukrainians finished 2:45.4 minutes behind France with seven extra rounds and no penalty laps.
