Stefani Stoeva and Gabriela Stoeva put in an exceptional performance and won their fifth European women's doubles badminton title in their careers. The championship was held in Horsens (Denmark), reports BTA. The Bulgarians, seeded No. 1, defeated the sixth-seeded representatives of the hosts Natasha Antonissen and Maiken Fruergaard (Denmark) in the final with 21:11, 21:16 in 42 minutes on the court.
Stefani and Gabriela Stoevi played very strongly in defense and offense throughout the match. In the first game, they had a constant lead in the score, and after 13:9, they made an 8:2 run and closed the half. The second game was more even and the Danes, supported by their audience, had a point lead several times. But after 14:14, the students of coach Petya Nedelcheva with a series of 7:1 reached 21:16 and the final success in the match.
For Stoevi, this was the seventh final of the European Championship. They have titles in Huelva 2018, Kiev 2021, Madrid 2022, Krakow 2023 (the European Games, which are the official European Championship) and Horsens 2025, as well as silver in Kolding 2017 and Saarbrücken 2024. In addition, the sisters are fifth in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and champions of the Baku 2015 European Games.
"We feel incredible. We knew it would be a very tough match against them because they are playing at home. It was mentally difficult, but we are happy that we won," said Gabriela Stoeva after the match.
"This was a perfect week for us," added Stefani.
