From the beginning of this month, new requirements related to child seats in cars are already in force. The chairs that are already available in stores must be made in accordance with the so-called i-Size standard.
This standard requires a mandatory impact test. The crash tests for the certification of child seats are done at a vehicle speed of 24 km/h. The ISOFIX system, which many older cars lack, is also included in the new standard.
According to the new requirements for the size of the child seat, the child's height is considered, not his weight. According to the new requirements, babies up to 15 months of age must be seated in seats that face the opposite direction of travel.
Child seats of the latest standard are recognized by the logo sticker, which is a seat in the shape of a child and the symbol i. The problem is that the installation of a seat according to the latest standard requires the presence of the ISOFIX system, which, as already mentioned, is absent from cars manufactured before 2010.
