Chinese giant BYD has the world's largest research and development workforce of any automaker. With more than 900,000 employees, BYD aims to continue its climb up the global sales charts by developing new technologies to promote affordable, longer-range electric vehicles.
By selling more cars than Honda and Nissan in the second quarter of 2024, BYD has become the world's seventh largest carmaker. BYD sold 980,000 vehicles in the second quarter, up 40% from last year. And now, as we have already informed you, the brand is also entering the Bulgarian market.
According to BYD's general manager of branding and public relations Li Yunfei, the company now has more than 900,000 employees. Lee posted a screenshot on social media showing that BYD's staff has reached 900,608. At the end of last year, BYD had just over 700,000 employees, which means that almost 200,000 positions have been added in 2024.
According to Li, BYD is one of the largest employers in China and the largest employer of more than 5,300 companies listed on the Chinese stock exchange. Lee also said that BYD is also the world's largest automaker in terms of R&D personnel, with more than 110,000 scientists.
Over the past two years, the company has hired nearly 50,000 R&D college graduates. To ensure its leadership in electric vehicles, BYD is also doubling down on research and development, investing heavily in intelligent driving and battery technology.
