GM launches a battery for electric cars with ultra-fast charging - 1

The American car giant General Motors is developing an innovative battery for electric vehicles. It will be launched on the market as early as 2025. This is reported by the site CarNewsChina.

The battery of a new generation of General Motors is being created jointly with the Chinese automobile concern SAIC, and the manufacturer of the serial batteries will be the Chinese CATL. Not much detailed information yet.

SAIC has recently started introducing solid-state batteries (which MG electric cars will soon get), but together with GM they are creating the more common lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery.

The General Motors battery is said to support 900-volt DC fast charging (Class 6C). In this mode, it will be possible to replenish the energy reserve needed for 200 km in just 5 minutes.

Specialists plan to achieve this result by implementing a number of new technologies. In particular, the battery will receive an electrolyte with increased electrical conductivity, a new graphite anode and an improved insulating coating.

Also, LFP batteries are safer as they are less susceptible to overheating. It also says that the first to get new batteries will be General Motors electric vehicles built on the updated Ultium platform.
