Audi confirmed the recall of 113 thousand cars: 12 models are at risk. The German brand will repair a whole galaxy of cars assembled both in Germany and China for free.

From December 27, 2024, dealers will start repairing 113,749 Audi cars manufactured between January 2, 2018 and January 23, 2023. Owners of the Audi A6L, A7, A8L, Q7, Q8, RS 6, RS 7, RS Q8, S6, S7, S8 and A6 Allroad will have to return their cars to workshops.

The automaker has found that due to a manufacturing defect, the 48-volt starter generator may lose power over time. It all has to do with a defect in the connection of the inverter to the electronics. Under certain conditions, the electric motor may not provide the declared characteristics. Audi will have to test all cars and, if necessary, replace the starter generators.

Since we are talking about the so-called "soft" hybrids, there will be no noticeable drop in power: the 48-volt "add-on" only helps the gasoline engine during acceleration and when releasing the throttle. Interestingly, the problem mainly concerns cars assembled in Germany: out of 113,749 cars, only 23,011 were produced in China at FAW-Volkswagen plants.
