Automaker Stellantis has developed a unique “exhaust system“ for electric vehicles that does not mimic an internal combustion engine, but rather serves as a safety mechanism to prevent fires in the event of battery failure.
When a battery overheats, short-circuits, or is mechanically damaged, it can release hot gases, which increases the risk of fire. Stellantis' new system directs these gases outward through special zones, minimizing the risk of fire.

Although modern electric vehicles are already equipped with ignition protection, companies continue to improve safety technologies.
Stellantis' patented development could be a new milestone in reducing the risks associated with electric vehicle batteries and preventing fires in them.
