Too long engine warm-up is actually a significant malfunction in a car, say the specialists from the Fit Service car service. However, they also explain to us what the reasons are for this, and as the most common reason for the longer engine warm-up they determine a faulty thermostat.
The problem usually appears in winter and is not noticeable in warm weather. The thermostat valve can get stuck, which usually happens in the open position in order to avoid rapid overheating. Thus, the antifreeze circulates in a large circle, which significantly slows down the engine warm-up.
But there is something else. The engine may be warm, but it is cold in the car. Here, the main reason is most often a dirty radiator of the heating system, because of which the heating of the passenger compartment is weak due to the low heat output.
In general, a defective cooling system can lead to increased fuel consumption and prolonged engine heating. The system may also not work due to internal "air plugs", a broken engine temperature sensor or a constantly running cooling system fan.
