In cold weather, you shouldn't drive your car without warming up the engine beforehand, as this can lead to damage. This is what PCK service manager Udo Weber warns about.
"At sub-zero temperatures, the oil is “pumped“ less, which means it takes longer to reach the camshafts, cylinders, valves and other parts in the upper part of the engine.
For this reason, it is important to give the engine time to idle without additional load“, explains the specialist. At temperatures of -5...-10°C, one to two minutes are enough, if the temperature is below -25°C, at least four minutes will be needed, he adds.
The expert also advises drivers that it is a good idea to change gears several times before setting off, regardless of whether the gearbox is manual or automatic. This is necessary to distribute the oil in the transmission evenly.
He also says to use soft brushes and scrapers when cleaning the interior of snow and ice, so as not to damage the paint and plastic elements. To quickly clean the windshield and mirrors, the specialist recommends turning on their heating from the inside.
