The study was conducted by specialists from the British University of Southampton. According to the published results, the substances released into the atmosphere as a result of brake pad wear have a much greater negative impact on the environment than the exhaust gases of modern gasoline and diesel engines.
However, this problem is never talked about and the fact that brake pads are harmful to the environment or human health. Initially, they contained asbestos, which causes many lung diseases. Over time, the harmful material was replaced with copper, which was supposed to correct the situation. In fact, it turned out that it also causes problems for the respiratory system. However, copper is still used by most brake pad manufacturers.
Recently, so-called organic pads have appeared on the market, whose manufacturers often position them as less harmful versions. However, scientists have found that organic dust is actually more harmful than the exhaust gases of modern diesel engines. Experts tested several brake pads from different companies with different compositions. All the details showed unsatisfactory results for the environment and the human body.
