Car manufacturer BMW intends to use the Neue Klasse platform to build a line of new models with different powertrains. The new series of software-defined cars will also get so-called Superbrains – „super brains“ in the form of four high-performance computers.
„Superbrains“ will monitor key systems, including the infotainment system, driving assistants, driving settings, climate control and more.
The automaker says that the total computing power of the „superbrains“ will be over 20 times greater than that of the current generation of electronics.
One of the advantages of the new digital system in BMW is the simplified electrical circuit, which means that the total length of the wires used will be reduced by 600 meters compared to modern cars, and their weight by 30%.
“Superbrains“ will be distributed in four zones and connected to local controllers responsible for managing these zones and transmitting information. As a result, a single data flow will be formed.
