The Russian Immortal Regiment March, which was scheduled to take place on May 9, 2024, has been cancelled. During the march, family members of the fallen usually display photos of deceased World War II veterans associated with Victory Day. Instead, portraits can be displayed in cars and in public places between May 1 and 11.
This was announced by the British Ministry of Defense in its daily summary of the war in Ukraine.
According to the website Meduza, the Victory Day parade in five Russian regions has also been canceled due to security concerns. This includes Bryansk, Pskov, Ryazan, Kursk and Belgorod.

The listed regions are located in western Russia and are vulnerable to Ukrainian drone attacks. On the eve of last year's Victory Day parade, there was a drone attack on the Kremlin.
For the second year in a row, the march of the Immortal Regiment has been canceled and the Victory Day parades have been limited due to security concerns.
This year, President Putin's inauguration precedes Victory Day and will take place on May 7. The potential for protest and discontent over the war in Ukraine likely influenced the Russian leadership's choice of date.
