France will assist in easing the tension between Israel and "Hezbollah". This was said by French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejournet, quoted by "Reuters".
He will discuss proposals aimed at easing tensions with Lebanese officials on April 28.
According to the French foreign minister, if there was no war in Gaza, there could easily be a war in southern Lebanon, given the number of strikes on both sides.
Sejourne has already offered "Hezbollah" to withdraw 10 km from the Israeli border, while Israel stops the strikes in southern Lebanon. The proposal, which was made earlier in the year, has been discussed with partners, including the US.
Paris seeks to find a solution to ease the strained relationship between "Hezbollah" and Israel, especially amid Israel's threats of a military operation in southern Lebanon.
In recent months, Israel and "Hezbollah" exchanged numerous blows, but they escalated after Iran fired missiles at Israel in response to the destroyed Iranian embassy in Damascus. We recall that "Hezbollah" is supported by Iran and Syria.
"Hezbollah" said it would not enter into any concrete discussions until there was a cease-fire in Gaza. For its part, Israel has said it wants to restore calm on its northern border so that thousands of displaced Israelis can return to the area without fear of rocket attacks.
In March, in a letter to the French Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon's Foreign Ministry expressed its belief that the French initiative would be a significant step towards peace and security in Lebanon and the region.
Local Lebanese media reported that the government has provided feedback to the French on the proposal, but French officials say the responses so far have been general and there is a lack of consensus among the Lebanese.
Stephane Sejournet will also visit Israel, but the country remains cautious about the French initiative.
We recall that on April 24, Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Galant stated that Israeli forces killed half of the commanders of "Hezbollah" in southern Lebanon, with the Israeli Defense Forces carrying out a major wave of strikes against dozens of sites belonging to the terrorist group.
