North Dakota Governor, Republican Douglas Bergham, is a possible candidate for the post of Vice President of USA in the event of Donald Trump's victory.
This was revealed by the portal Axios, citing its sources.
According to the interlocutors of the publication, the staff of the former American president considers Bergam a "sure candidate who will attract the support of moderate voters".
As confirmation of their words, the sources point to the joint Easter brunch of the Trump and Bergamo families at the Mar-a-Lago residence, as well as the frequent mention of the governor's name in the discussions of the Republicans.
Two other Axios interviewees said Trump liked Bergham's measured demeanor and his experience as a governor.
According to the portal, the personal qualities of the 67-year-old Bergham are similar to those of former US Vice President Mike Pence, to whom Trump offered the post while he was governor of Indiana.
Trump's entourage declined to comment to Axios.
The governor of North Dakota participated in the current election campaign, but in December 2023 withdrew his candidacy. As reported by the BBC, the reason is the unsuccessful debates in the primary elections.
Then he criticized the Republican National Committee for its requirements for the debates.
Soon after, Trump hinted that he plans to bring Bergam "into an important role in the administration if he wins the election,", Axios reported.
According to the portal, the governor of North Dakota is in solidarity with the former US president on many issues, including abortion.
The US presidential election will be held in November 2024
The main candidates for them are Republican Trump and Democrat Joe Biden, who currently holds the post of head of state.
