The purpose of the planned nuclear exercises is to train the response of any attacks on Russian territory that the West has allowed Ukraine to carry out with the weapons it supplies. This was stated on Friday by the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, quoted by "Reuters".
Medvedev warned the West that Russia could attack not only Ukraine in response to such attacks.
"Under certain circumstances, the response (to such attacks) will be directed not only against Kiev," Medvedev wrote in Telegram.
"And not only with conventional explosives, but also with a special kind of weapons,", he added.
As a reminder, Russia announced on Monday that it will train the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons as part of a military exercise following "threats from France, Great Britain and the United States".
Medvedev referred in particular to British Foreign Secretary David Cameron's recent comments about Ukraine being allowed to use British-supplied weapons against targets in Russia.
