US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken leaves for another visit to Egypt and Israel. The trip is part of Washington's intensified efforts to achieve a cease-fire in Gaza, aimed at preventing the spread of the conflict in Lebanon, reports Reuters and News.bg.
This will be Blinken's eighth trip to the region since hostilities began on October 7, he will also visit Jordan and Qatar.
On his arrival in Cairo, Blinken is due to meet Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, then visit Israel for discussions with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Galant. The meetings are key, given the current tension in the region.
On May 31, US President Joe Biden proposed a three-phase ceasefire. This plan aims for a final cessation of hostilities, the release of hostages and prisoners on both sides, and the restoration of Gaza.
Blinken's visit comes shortly after the resignation of Israeli Minister Benny Gantz, which further complicates the situation.
