Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, today said it plans to sign a treaty with North Korea that will bring "strategic cooperation" in all spheres, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
Peskov said that Moscow will provide more details about the agreement after its conclusion.
Tensions on the Korean peninsula rose after North Korea yesterday blew up sections of roads and railways linking it to South Korea across the heavily fortified border. The South Korean armed forces responded with warning shots.
Peskov also said that the upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia do not affect Russia, as Moscow does not interfere in the internal affairs of the Caucasian country. According to the spokesman, Russia noted the apparent attempts by Western countries to put pressure on Tbilisi ahead of the October 26 elections, but he did not provide evidence to support this claim, Reuters noted.
The Kremlin spokesman was also asked to clarify Saudi Arabia's status in the BRICS organization after Russian presidential adviser Yuri Ushakov last week named the Arab country a member of the organization and said the Saudi foreign minister would attend the meeting of the top in the city of Kazan.
"The summit will take place soon, and we will provide further information on who will represent Saudi Arabia and whether it will be represented at that meeting, and then we will draw our conclusions," said Peskov.
Saudi Arabia has received an invitation to join BRICS, but has not yet done so officially, Reuters notes.
