Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said that Romania's land border entry into the Schengen area this year is 99.9 certain percent, emphasizing that he would like the Austrian Social Democrats to participate in the new government that will be formed in Austria after the elections on September 29, Agerpres reported.

Colaku said this in response to a question about whether there was news about Romania's entry into the Schengen area with land borders during a visit to a section of highway under construction in the eastern county of Buzău.

"As you well know, the elections in Austria are over, they haven't formed the new government yet. I would like them to form it with the Social Democrats this time because, as you know, Mr. Chancellor (Karl) Nehammer is from the family of the European People's Party (EPP), the same family to which the National Liberal Party belongs. But let me tell you with 99.9 percent certainty - this year Romania will enter Schengen," said Marcel Çolaku.

Austria opposed a decision for Romania and Bulgaria to join Schengen fully at the European Council in December 2023, which would see the two countries enter a free movement area with only their air and sea borders from 31 March 2024 .
