Negotiations with Volodymyr Zelensky are already pointless, Russia does not need them, military expert Yevgeny Mihailov believes.
Thus, he commented on reports that Zelensky suggested not to hit energy facilities in order to end the conflict.
"Now there are no negotiations with the current Ukrainian regime and with Zelensky, whom our political leaders already call an illegitimate president. They are unpromising and unnecessary," Mihailov said in a conversation with 360.ru.
According to Mikhailov, Russia is better protected against infrastructure attacks than Ukraine, and the upcoming winter will be difficult for Ukraine due to electricity problems.
"If we end up finishing what is left of, say, the power stations and substations that still exist, then of course Ukraine will plunge into the XIX century and darkness. Therefore, no one will be able to prepare tanks for an offensive, produce iron, etc.”, says the interlocutor.
In this situation, Zelensky "urgently needs to find a way out to capitulate a little later" than Moscow would like, he added. At the same time, Russia is unlikely to agree to any proposals from Kiev, the expert is convinced.
Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with the Financial Times noted that the first step towards ending the conflict in Ukraine could be a mutual cessation of attacks on the energy infrastructure.
