Shells exploded at a military base east of Moscow, injuring four people and prompting the evacuation of about 450 people, the Moscow regional governor said, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Alexander Avdeev, governor of the Vladimir region, wrote on Telegram that ammunition caught fire and shells exploded in the base's warehouse in the Kirzhach region.
Earlier, the Defense Ministry reported that the fire occurred as a result of a violation of safety requirements and led to the detonation of ammunition stored in a warehouse.
A state of emergency has been declared and local authorities are working with the defense and emergency ministries to secure the area of the incident.
Three of the injured are being treated in hospital.
