The spokeswoman for Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko - Natalia Eismont - confirmed that in the first days of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, Lukashenko spoke with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, but denied the Ukrainian president's claims that he apologized, Ukrinform reported, citing information from the Belarusian radio “Svoboda“, BTA reported.
Eismont noted that the conversation between the two took place “due to the emotional reaction of Alexander Lukashenko's youngest son – Nikolai, who had Zelensky's contacts in his phone“.
The spokeswoman added that during the conversation the Belarusian president “first of all said that the conflict broke out on the territory of Ukraine, on Zelensky's territory, and it was he who would ultimately have to answer for the loss of human lives more than anyone else.“
Eismont added that Lukashenko did not apologize to Zelensky, as he claims, “for the simple reason that there is nothing to apologize for“.
That is why, according to her, the Belarusian president “called for negotiations, which have already taken place: three rounds in Belarus and then in Istanbul“.
Yesterday, the Ukrainian head of state said in an interview with American podcaster Lex Friedman that in the first days of the full-scale invasion of Russia in his country Lukashenko apologized to him for the missiles fired from the territory of Belarus. Zelensky stressed that he responded by calling him “a murderer like Putin“.
