A huge and sharp growth in the supply of drugs, especially cocaine, is observed throughout Germany. This was announced by the head of the German Federal Criminal Police Office, Holger Münch, reports News.bg.
In an interview with the RND media group, quoted by BTA, Münch pointed out that the saturation of the North American drug market has led to the redirection of cocaine supplies to Europe. Thus, the continent is becoming an increasingly large center for the distribution of cocaine.
According to him, Germany is “flooded with cocaine“, with the drug spreading rapidly throughout the country.
In addition to cocaine, the German authorities are also facing problems with the distribution of heroin. The ban on opium poppy cultivation imposed by the Taliban in Afghanistan has led to a reduced supply of heroin, but also to a greater likelihood that it will be mixed with synthetic opioids. This significantly increases the risk of serious consequences, including death.
Despite this situation, crime statistics in Germany for 2024 report a decrease in heroin-related crimes. However, cocaine-related crimes have increased by almost 5%. An even more serious increase has been recorded in the use of LSD - 32.6%, and criminal acts related to new synthetic drugs have jumped by 41.6%.
In June 2024, German authorities seized cocaine worth 2.6 billion euros hidden in several container ships with fruit and vegetables. This was the largest amount of cocaine seized in the country's history. Among the seven arrested was a Bulgarian citizen.
The investigation revealed that a businessman from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia had created over 100 fictitious companies to make the shipments appear legal.
