An industrial plant in the Russian city of Engels was damaged in a Ukrainian drone attack tonight, TASS reported, citing Saratov Region Governor Roman Busargin, BTA reported.
He did not give details. An air alert has been declared in the Saratov Region, hundreds of kilometers from Ukraine, where Engels is located.
The city is experiencing pressure problems in the water supply network. Classes in Engels and the regional center of Saratov will be held remotely today due to the threat of drone attacks, Busargin said.
Two firefighters died fighting flames at an oil base in Engels, which serves an airport where strategic bombers are based, on Wednesday after a Ukrainian drone attack. The city is about 600 kilometers from the border with Ukraine.
Russia launched a full-scale invasion of its neighboring country nearly three years ago. Since 2023, Ukraine has relied heavily on drones in its fight against Russian forces, as they are relatively easy and quick to produce and can be used by soldiers without risking their lives, DPA noted. An air alert was declared in several Russian regions that night. Russian authorities reported, as quoted by TASS, drone attacks in the Tula and Voronezh regions, along with Saratov.
