Donald Trump plans to increase the pace of deliveries of American weapons and military equipment to Taiwan. This was announced by the future national security assistant of the 47th US President Donald Trump, Mike Walz.

“We have outstanding contracts with them worth over $20 billion, they have already paid these funds. And we need to work hard to release these weapons, to give them what they have already paid for as a deterrent against China“, he said, commenting on the situation around Taiwan on Tuesday at the Washington Institute of Peace.

At the same time, Walz confirmed that the next administration in Washington, which begins work on January 20, envisages saturating the island with such weapons systems that would significantly increase the likely losses of mainland China in the event of a hypothetical conflict in the Taiwan Strait and would force Beijing to abandon such plans.

Trump intends to "continue to strengthen" Washington's partnerships and alliances in the Asia-Pacific region. In this regard, the efforts of the outgoing US administration, led by Joe Biden, were praised, which were aimed at improving relations in the "USA - Republic of Korea - Japan" and "USA - Philippines - Japan" triangles. Walz called "a critical partnership for the future" United States relations with India.

Taiwan has been governed by its own administration since 1949, when the remnants of the Kuomintang forces led by Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975) retreated there after being defeated in the Chinese Civil War. Beijing considers Taiwan to be one of the provinces of the PRC.
