Arbel Yehud, who was kidnapped during an attack by radical Palestinian groups on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, was due to be released on Thursday as part of a new ceasefire deal in the Gaza Strip.
A total of 33 hostages are to be exchanged for 1,904 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons during the first phase of this ceasefire, which is expected to last six weeks. So far, “Hamas“ has released seven young women who were exchanged for 290 Palestinians.
Yehud, who is a civilian, was due to be released on Saturday. But instead, four young female soldiers were released. As a result, Israel postponed the then-promised permission for Gazans to return to the northern enclave. Then “Hamas“ announced that Yehud would be released soon, and in response, Israel today allowed Palestinians to begin returning to their homes in northern Gaza.
Yehud, who is 29, was kidnapped with her boyfriend from their home in the Israeli kibbutz Nir Oz. Her brother, who also lived there, was killed during the terrorist attack.
More than 300,000 Gazans displaced by the conflict have already returned to the northern enclave, Agence France-Presse reported. This was made possible after the Israeli army allowed their return there.
