The company "Naftogaz Ukraine" said that the country's gas reserves are sufficient to cover the winter heating season. Earlier, the former head of the Ukrainian gas transportation system, Sergei Makogon, said that the country's storage facilities could soon be filled to only about 10%, the BBC reports.
"We are monitoring the situation with gas reserves," the head of "Naftogaz Ukraine" Roman Chumak said in a statement. "They will be sufficient to ensure a stable heating season. Coziness and warmth in the homes of Ukrainians is the main priority of our work."
Chumak added that the company also imports fuel and "must be prepared for all challenges in wartime".
On Tuesday, Makogon wrote on his Facebook page that Ukraine's gas storage facilities "are gradually but surely approaching the 10% fill level. "This means that we will not be able to meet the demand for gas through production and underground gas storage facilities and will have to urgently import gas," Makogon wrote.
"Reuters" notes that Ukraine has stopped providing data on the volume of gas in storage facilities, which have been under constant attack by Russia since the start of the full-scale invasion.
According to Makogon, exactly a year ago the storage facilities were 20% full, and in the same period in 2023 - 22-23%.
According to information cited by Reuters, Ukraine is currently importing small amounts of gas from Hungary. Earlier this year, Ukraine stopped the transit of Russian gas to Europe.
