Israel launches investigation into Netanyahu's wife - 1

Israeli police have launched an investigation into Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's wife, Sara, in connection with allegations broadcast on TV 12 in 2024 that she tried to intimidate a witness and interfere in the trial of three cases of abuse against her husband, The Times of Israel reported.

According to the publication, opposition Knesset member Naama Lazimi reported that the prosecutor's office informed her that a police investigation had been opened against Sara Netanyahu in response to her request on December 26, 2024. TV 12 previously reported that the prime minister's wife had instructed her husband's aide to organize protests to pressure a witness in one of the three cases in which Netanyahu is testifying in court.

On January 27, after a break lasting almost a month, the Tel Aviv District Court resumed hearings involving the prime minister in three cases of bribery, fraud and breach of public trust. Netanyahu became the first sitting Israeli prime minister to testify before judges.

On November 21, 2019, the Attorney General of Israel announced that he had decided to indict Netanyahu on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of public trust. The indictments were filed with the Jerusalem District Court on January 28, 2020. The hearings are currently being held in the Tel Aviv District Court building, as it has an underground room protected from possible rocket attacks.

The prime minister has since repeatedly denied all charges brought against him.
