Russia's Defense Ministry has accused Ukraine of trying to thwart an agreement to temporarily halt attacks on energy infrastructure reached between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. The accusation comes after a nighttime strike by a Ukrainian drone on an oil depot in Krasnodar region, world agencies reported, BTA reports.
In a statement quoted by Reuters and TASS, the Russian Ministry of Defense said the attack came just hours after a phone call between Putin and Trump, in which the two leaders agreed that Russia and Ukraine would temporarily stop attacking energy infrastructure.
According to Russian regional authorities, the nighttime attack caused a fire at the oil base located near the village of Kavkazka in the Krasnodar region.
“It is clear that this is a new provocation, specially prepared by the Kiev regime, aimed at thwarting the peace initiatives of the President of the United States,“ said the Russian Ministry of Defense statement quoted by Agence France-Presse.
