Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa welcomed Riyadh's genuine will to support his country, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.
This statement was made by al-Sharaa during a visit to Saudi Arabia. This is his first foreign visit since he became Syria's interim president.
"We discussed major projects for the future, in the fields of energy, technology, education and healthcare, in order to achieve together a true partnership aimed at preserving peace and stability in the entire region and improving the economic reality of the Syrian people,“ Ahmed al-Sharaa said after the meetings in Riyadh.
Earlier today, Saudi state television “Al Ekhbariya“ showed footage of the arrival of Al-Sharaa and his Foreign Minister Hassan Asad Al-Shibani in Riyadh. There, they were greeted by Saudi officials as they disembarked from the plane. According to the Saudi Press Agency, Al-Sharaa was received by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The meeting between them lasted a long time.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry confirmed that the two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations.
Al-Sharaa became the interim president of Syria for the period of transition in the country. Damascus is counting on wealthy Gulf states to finance reconstruction and help revive Syria's economy, stifled by international sanctions and devastated by nearly 14 years of civil war.
Ash-Sharaa himself said in December that Saudi Arabia would certainly play a role in Syria's reconstruction and revealed that he was born in the country, where his father worked for the first seven years of his life.
