US Vice President J.D. Vance will take part in the Munich Security Conference, which will be held in the middle of the month, DPA reported, citing organizers, quoted by BTA.
This will be his first participation in the forum as vice president, after attending last year as a senator.
The significance of the Munich Conference
The Munich Security Conference is one of the leading international events, in which heads of state and government, foreign policy experts and analysts participate. Vance will represent the new US President Donald Trump, and traditionally the country is often represented at this level.
Expected participants and political context
The forum will bring together around 60 heads of state and government leaders, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Despite the importance of the event, no sitting US president has ever participated in it.
Vance's first foreign visit
Before arriving in Germany, J.D. Vance will visit France, where he will participate in a summit on artificial intelligence in Paris on February 10 and 11. This will be his first international visit since taking office as US vice president last month.
