EU insists Gaza should be an integral part of a future Palestinian state - 1

Gaza must be an integral part of a future Palestinian state, an EU spokesman said, adding that the Union remains committed to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Reuters reported, quoted by dariknews.bg.

"We have taken note of President Trump's statement. The EU remains firmly committed to the two-state solution, which we believe is the only way to achieve lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians," the official said.

"Gaza is an integral part of a future Palestinian state," he added.

Speaking at the White House yesterday in the presence of visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington, Trump said he would support efforts to permanently resettle Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to places where they can live without fear of violence, adding that the US would "establish control over the war-torn Gaza Strip" once the Palestinians are resettled elsewhere and develop it economically.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said in a phone call with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron that the international community must shoulder its responsibility to support the implementation of the the two-state solution, which is a fundamental guarantee for the stability of the region, announced the spokesman of the Egyptian presidency, Mohamed al-Shenawi, BTA reported.

Al-Sisi highlighted his country's efforts to ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and the exchange of Israeli hostages kidnapped by the Palestinian movement “Hamas” for Palestinian prisoners. The Egyptian head of state also presented the steps to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, as well as the planning of urgent actions to restore the enclave.

Macron, for his part, expressed his high appreciation and support for Cairo's efforts and its decisive role in achieving regional stability.

The two leaders also discussed the events in Syria, expressing their commitment to its unity and territorial integrity. Regarding the situation in Lebanon, they reaffirmed their support for the Lebanese presidency and government, noting the importance of strengthening the ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Shiite group “Hezbollah”.

Al-Sisi and Macron highlighted the strong ties between Egypt and France and the readiness to strengthen cooperation and continue consultations and coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The conversation between the Egyptian and French presidents took place against the backdrop of international reactions to US President Donald Trump's proposal for the US to take control of Gaza and relocate the residents of the strip elsewhere.
