Espionage trial in London: Beautician Gaberova was deceived, believed that Dzhambazov worked for Interpol - 1

The trial against the Bulgarians accused of spying for Russia continues in Britain, BNR reported.

After another day in the Central Criminal Court, where beautician Vanya Gaberova was again questioned, more details from her personal life became clear, as she again repeated her claims that she was deceived, but never doubted that Biser Dzhambazov worked for Interpol.

Gaberova said that she experienced a real shock when the police broke into her home to arrest her lover Biser Dzhambazov while he was naked in her bed. Despite learning that Dzhambazov had lied to her about having cancer and had split from his long-term partner, Catherine Ivanova, also a defendant, Gaberova told jurors she never suspected he was an undercover Interpol agent.

The Central Criminal Court in London was told that Gabarova, 30, had traded her relationship with 39-year-old painter Tihomir Ivanchev, also a defendant, for a life of luxury with the "ugly" but "charming" Biser Dzhambazov, 43. Jurors heard that Gaberova and Dzhambazov stayed at a five-star hotel in Valencia, Spain, dined at a Michelin-starred restaurant and went to clubs during surveillance operations.

She once again denied knowingly being part of any spying agreement for Russia.

Prosecutors expressed bewilderment that she knew that Dzhambazov was lying to her about so many things, and did not doubt his version that he worked for Interpol.

The leaders of the spy cell Orlin Rusev and Biser Dzhambazov pleaded guilty at the beginning of the trial.

Vanya Gaberova, Katrin Ivanova and Tihomir Ivanchev deny the espionage charges.

The trial continues.
