Stability in Lebanon is crucial for peace in the Middle East, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said, quoted by the Hungarian news agency MTI, BTA reports.
According to him, the Lebanese have a real chance to regain their right to a peaceful life in the long term.
Szijjártó stressed that Hungary strongly supports the extension of the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon. He stressed the importance of the presence of UN peacekeeping forces, noting that his country is participating in the mission with 16 soldiers.
The Hungarian foreign minister also called for the strengthening of the Lebanese army and announced that Hungary had made an additional payment through the European Peace Facility to support this goal.
Szijjártó added that in 2025, Hungary's international aid program would be focused on supporting Christian communities in various countries.
Talks are planned in Beirut later today on Hungary's contribution to stability in the region, as well as the development of bilateral relations with Lebanon.
