Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that US President Donald Trump's plan to evict Palestinians from Gaza poses a great threat to world peace, Reuters reported.
Speaking to Indonesian television during his visit to the country, Erdogan commented on Trump's plan to evict more than 2 million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, impose American control over it and turn it into the "Riviera of the Middle East".
"I see Trump's decision to make such a deal with a murderer like (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu and his threats as a great threat to world peace," Erdogan said.
"Right now, no one can take Gaza away from the Palestinians, from the people of Gaza. "To dare to do such a thing is, first of all, a very different threat to world peace," he added.
Erdogan also said he did not consider Trump's statements, which he said constituted "challenges to many countries in the world," to be correct.
"My hope is that such mistakes will be corrected as soon as possible and that a world giant like the United States will quickly step back from these mistakes so that a way can be found to establish world peace," the Turkish president said.
The Arab world reacted with anger and European powers expressed deep concern over Trump's proposal to permanently evict Palestinians from Gaza, allowing it to become a coastal resort under US control, the agency noted.
