The Russian army announced that it has captured a new village in the Donetsk region, located in eastern Ukraine, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.
Russian troops are making slow but steady progress against the smaller and less equipped forces of Kiev, the agency said.
A statement from the Russian Defense Ministry said that Russian troops had captured Berezovka (or Berezivka in Ukrainian), which is located between the cities of Pokrovsk and Kostantinovka.
Despite the losses, the Russian army has been advancing in eastern Ukraine for more than a year and is seeking to keep Pokrovsk under its control. The Russian plans include cutting off the highways on the eastern and western outskirts of the city, which would severely disrupt supplies for the Ukrainian army.
According to the pro-Ukrainian military website "DeepState", Russian forces have already reached Berezovka and are on the road connecting Pokrovsk to Kostantinovka.
Faced with the Russian advance on this key road, the Ukrainian military has been forced to retreat via alternative routes, which is already slowing down logistics in this part of the region. Ukrainian army convoys are also frequently attacked by Russian drones.
Russian troops are also approaching Kostantinovka, another important logistics center for the Ukrainian army, AFP added.
